Hi, first time I've used this and I hope I am sending this correctly.

Breakdown problem

I just 1000 drove to zero degrees New London NH from coast of NC in 86 Vanagon (automatic).

I went to start the van after sitting about 6 hrs. Big noise sounding like squealing of large chunks of rubber as engine started running.

Checked the ground and all the oil was streaming out from behind the oil cooler (the box the fileter mounts on. Appears the seal is gone.. Removed the beast last night in a kind person warm garage. I got a seal from a new oil filter and will install it where the old one was broken in two. It was the old original black seal in there.

Now one of the water lines (the short 90 degeree elbow one was rotted and came apart during the battle for the cooler extraction. I plan to replace the other one as well.

Question: Is there some parts place here, near New London, I can get these Sunday or Monday? I'm am due in Boston on Tuesday for Dr appt.

Second thing that happened.

Apparently the cold froze something in the power steering lines. The pump was running and pushing fluid out of the reservior like mad at the same time oil was pumping out of the oil cooler. I have had no problems with it before. The garage is warm so maybe it will unfreeze the lin.

Ques: Any idea why this would happen?

Thanks for your help.

Don Long blackcreekfarm@hotmail.com

MSN 8 helps ELIMINATE E-MAIL VIRUSES. Get 2 months FREE*.
