Sounds like the auto part might have been smoked from lack of fluid. You can
remove just the auto half  pull the governer out and be careful for the pump
rod. Most after market parts suppliers have kits that can include all
seals,discs,and plates I have paid as little as $120.00 for these kits and
they worked for me.
