The reason I said that it was tapered was that it ONLY came off when I drove the pin out in ONE DIRECTION.  I banged and banged and it would not budge, turned it over drove it the other way and it came out.  It would only go in one way also...

If it is tapered it is slight then...

If not, then it just was my experience with a difficult replacement...
