I fill up to the top of the fill pipe now. I get over 360 miles in average
conditions and about 20mpg, less in head winds. Usually add around 17 or so
gallons at the fill.

Just about every gas guage in the VWs I've had is overly optimistic. My
current 90 wants to have 1/4 tank for too long and then BAM! we're almost
dry. I can get somewhere around 300 miles on a tank - sometimes more - so I
track it like that.

Almost ran out the other day and put 16 gallons back in. Oops!
