I've had clutch chatter for about 50K miles and 5 years. Happened about 10K after I had a new clutch put in. My problem, I believe is because of a leaking transmission seal. It is probably not very good on the motor mounts over time. It does keep people from wanting to drive your van though. :-) Todd '88 Westy Art McGinn wrote: > my '82 vanagon had a new clutch installed about 12k back but, later, some >"chatter" began surfacing when the van is on an upgrade and starting-up from >a dead stop. the chatter, which feels like internal bucking from the rear >end, stops when the clutch pedal is disengaged. i am told the chatter is due >to an ill-matched surface, like clutch and pressure plate or something. the >question is, is this a fatal condition or one that just sounds bad? is such >a clutch going to go bad sooner rather than later? otherwise, gears shift >easily and clutch is normal. thanks for any thoughts. art > > > > > > > >--- >Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. >Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). >Version: 6.0.461 / Virus Database: 260 - Release Date: 3/10/03 > > >
