| It would be nice to know if any one has owned a | vanagon new how they feel about their purchase then and 15+ years later. I'm the original owner of a 1987 Westy. Despite following the VW's recommended maintenance schedule religiously, using VW replacement parts and practicing preventative maintenance, the vehicle has left me stranded at the side of the road more times than I deserve and has cost me more in repairs and parts than it cost to buy in the first place. If I knew in 1987 what I know now, I would not have bought the vehicle. Although I love the vehicle when it's behaving itself, I agree with Phil Edmunston (the author of Lemon Aid), who said, "the Vanagon is a great idea poorly executed by VW".
