One of two things usually cause the blinking light--other than your
engine overheating. Either the sensor has gone bad or there isn't
enough coolant in the system.

Look at the sensor on top of the main water bottle. There is a cable
that connects to the sensor that will pull off. Look for antifreeze
leaking--this sensor weakens over time and leaks. Also, could be that
there isn't enough coolant in the system--make certain that the coolant
fills the bottle.

The senor ran around $12 at the VW dealer.

What does it mean? It just started happening recently, intermittent at
first,
now after it warms up it flashes fairly constantly. I'm sure a manual
would
tell me, but I'm waiting for mine in the mail. I have an 85 w/a rebuilt
engine.
