Funny thing is, i wasn't talking theory, either.  I
had the same symptoms, and they went away when i
changed my instrument cluster (same sensors) in my
'84.  I don't know enough about this stuff to know
"theory" :-)

Mark Drillock pretty much gave the low-down, though.
