Subject is a 1984 Wasserboxer.  I have all bolts removed and the case
halves spread to about a 1" separation.  At that point the right side
hangs on something (looking from the pulley end).  Am I supposed to
remove the pistons before splitting--and if so, then how?  The
obstruction seems like it might be a ring, but I try to compress them
by hand and it doesn't seem to help.

I've searched the archives and other web sources and not found helpful
instructions.  I have the Bentley manual on CD-ROM, which makes it
difficult to use, so if it's explained there I can't locate it.
