I had a smog test only on my 1985 Westy and it passed without a problem on
its VW engine. I just replaced the whole engine with a Subaru unit as the
transmission/diff failed and it seemed like a good time to do it. A good
running engine should pass the more difficult test because of the less
rigid standards for earlier vehicles.
