Lots of people do this.  I leave my shaft out almost
all of the time.  Loosening the front diff bolts will
help get the shaft out.  Be sure to tie up both of the
shaft or else it will fall on your head as mine did on
mine.  Superstitious people mark the shaft at both
ends so as to get it back in EXACTLY the same way.  M
