I've been using big wires for 10 years in my Syncro Camper.  On Baja
trips I park unmoving for days or weeks at a time. In hot weather I run
my swamp cooler a lot and the aux bat gets pretty low after a few days.
Then I start the engine and use my CLUB to hold the throttle at 2000 rpm
for 30 mins. If  I used small wires like the VW type kits use I would
have to run it for hours to get the same charge.  I have done this a
hundred times with no problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by massive. I have an 80 amp fuse on the
large positive wire between the 2  batteries. The same one has been
there for 10 years.
