Guilty as charged. I didn't notice the link to the pic and mistakenly
assumed that he was trying to replace an original antenna. But you're
right, this pic is not of original antenna at all. However, an SM40 may
work. This is a side mount antenna, generally used on busses but
dealer-installed on some early Vanagons as well.

A simpler and perhaps safer option might be to try to find something
suitable at a Pep Boys or other large auto parts store.
