Solved I put a new ignition switch in and Slowpoke started right up. In matter of fact it cranked and fired up much faster than before. Lesson learned: keep a spare ignition switch in your Van (plus the tools to take everything apart: 6mm hex key a 30mm socket) Cheers, Hans Brouwer Cumberland, Ontario 69 Bus (Speedy) 86 Westfalia (Slowpoke) 92 Cabriolet (for sale) BusFusion a VW Camper camping event in Almonte, June 12 ~ 15, 2003 Member: Vanagon List, IWCCC & Capital City VW Club ----- Original Message ----- From: Hans Brouwer To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2003 9:41 PM Subject: No start electrical smell Hi Volks: While driving home last night in our 86 Westfalia I smelled a faint electrical smell. This morning the Westfalia would not turn over. I replaced the ignition switch 4 weeks ago. The following do work: - Blower fan settings 1, 2 and, 3 work - Radio works - Headlights low and high beam work - Lights on dash blink like it usually does when you turn the key - Fuel pump hums I am going to check the fuses (including the 2 fuel relays) and the ground at the coil tomorrow. Any other places to check?
