Yoshi's job is well done, but the way i did it you dont need to remove the column, or use an adaptor. all you need is a donor A1/A2 VW steering wheel, a drill and a 1/2" bit and a steady hand. simple upgrade. chris > At any rate the one correct solution that I find acceptable is detailed by > Yoshi in my one of my How-to Pages at: > > http://hometown.aol.com/realsf/howtopage2.html > > It's the piece on the lower half of the page. > > actually, i drilled out the part of the aluminum casting that was -not- splined. the part that is now drilled out rests on the column shaft where the vanagon steering wheel used to rest. if you look at the back of the vanagon steering wheel, the hole is larger BEFORE the splined part, but the splines are the same. what i did was just make the A1/A2 jetta/golf/scirocco/bla,bla whatever steering wheel look like the vanagon one from the back. i made the hole in the back of the A1/A2 steering wheel 15/16th dia. and 5/8th deep. and i used a large lockwasher to hold it firm under the nut. the only disadvantage is the A1/A2 steering wheel is slightly smaller, and blocks off the top part of your speedometer, and tachometer, but the crucial gauges (gas, H20 temp)are at the bottom so its not a problem. chris
