I had a heck of a time with getting the spare back up in there, the first
time I did it.  It seems the trick is to have the spare fairly far forward
on the pan, close to the latch end.  If it's back towards the hinges the
pan will stop one tantalizing inch from the hook every time, and you'll be
heaving on it like crazy trying to get it closed that last bit.
