Hey Joe :-)

I got nothing on fixing your axles, but if you are going to lie on the ground
for 6 hours under your car you need to find a couple of big corrugated
cardboard boxes, open them up, and lay them down under the bug.  This will do 2
things:  keep you away from the cold, hard ground, and make a slippery path for
sliding in and out from under the car.

If you can lay down 2 or 3 layers of cardboard, you will be way more
comfortable and you'll be protecting your driveway from oil spills.

Another cheap and easy tip, free of charge.  Good luck on the axles.
