I have done this too. Put unit in luggage rack, and covered with canvas to top. AC blows in screen. Very simple. Works well. The only small problem is moving it down when I move. An older, now off list member told me this last summer. He had good idea's Good Morning, Fred. E-mail message Subject: Re: Portable Air Conditioner for Westy? Owen, what AC unit was it that you got from Walmart? And how did you mount your unit on your vehicle? Pictures? Simply lift it up on the ledge and it blows into the screened window. Thermostat controlled and whisper quiet. I found this solution in the archives. The guy that suggested it also suggested sewing a closure to keep the cold air in. We used a blanket and clothes pins to complete the Jed Clampett affect. We were very cold in August last year. A nice refinement (also from the archives) is to build a hanger to hook into the top stow bin and hang it down into the driver or passenger window with a nice cut out to fit it to. Maybe this summer I will add that refinement. Here in Houston it was 98F in the shade at 10:45 this morning. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bryan Jones" <ALOHADREAM@AOL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Sunday, June 22, 2003 10:14 PM Subject: Portable Air Conditioner for Westy? I know this subject has probably been covered many times, but does anyone know of a good portable air conditioner solution that works in a Westy when parked at a camp site with a 110 hookup? Deep South summer time camping is BRUTAL! The humidity has already been relentless this year. thanks, Bryan Jones '91 Westy Fred
