At last, a good Vanagon tech question! :) I inherited an early '60s Hula Girl from my aunt. She originally had it on the back shelf of her '62 Vauxhall Envoy - whoo-hoo! 2 tone blue and white, three on the tree manual trans, trouble free electrics (ha!) but a not-so-bullet proof ohv I4. I inherited that also, was lying under the aforementioned Hula Girl. Wish I had kept better care of the Envoy, was really a cute car (no sniggers from the peanut gallery please, that means you G. Goff). Anyhoo, the girl was glued to a 3"X4" or so bit of 3/8 plywood which allowed it to stand on the Envoy shelf but not the Vanagon dash. I removed the plywood and I tried 3M double sided tape on the hollow base of the girl, no go. I finally had best success with polyurethane construction adhesive gluing a quarter sized rare earth magnet (Lee Valley Tools) to the base of her feet. The material this girl was made of was some sort of fibrous Plaster of Paris. After almost 40 years in a car she is getting frail (osteoporosis?), her nose is chipped and she leans to one side. She also lost her grass skirt a long time ago but my Aunt made a fetching little red crotchet number for her.
