I've been pokin around in the engine bay and this is where i'm at.
checked timing and it seems to be at 5 dg. past the U notch which is where
it should be the V is 5 dg left of the U. sound right? or should it be set
to the V?
which side of the U is Before and which is after? I'm gettin confused.
Pulled the plugs and found alot of carbon (too rich) Starting to think it
is a mix prob. any way the problem is seemingly gettin worse. could not
figure out how to hook up my Tach. so if anyone could help me with that one
it'd be cool. Also noticed exhuast turned to black smoke when idle got
crappy. it was fine before. also think I found a new exhuast leak. Pardon
me for seeming a bit ignorant but it is hard to examine a van and watch a
child at the same time...

Subject: stalling at stop lights.

hi there y'all.

I hope everyone is enjoying their vans this summer.
I have developed a little problem now that the warmth is here. I have an 85
GL. It starts fine, runs great until up to temp. Seems to develop a
somewhat erratic idle and sometimes stalls when it comes to a stop. A guy i
know that use to build and race modifieds told me to check the timing
becuase sometimes shops will adjust the timing to get an engine to run
right. what do you folks think. Also if this is the prob. I have not
timed a waterboxer just air cooled busses, so if anyone has a pointer or two
it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
