Hey Dave,

Same problem here, couldn't see past the A/C.  I ended up mounting a regular
rear-view mirror on the windshield, the kind of kit you get at Wal-martt or
FLAPS.  It sits low enough to see backward, but unfortunately it partially
blocks my view of traffic to the right.  Gotta be careful with that.  Get a kit and
tape it up there, then drive around a bit to see if you like it before you
install it.
