A nice quality new antenna is very cheap.

I have two later style Vanagon antennas (antennae?) that fully retract.
These are the style that mounts on the front of the van, just below the
windshield.

FM09V, from Jopex/Denmark, has a silver base and silver mast, and is

I put the Hella on my '89 Westy recently and it looks every bit as good
as the VW one (but is fully retractable).

mounted one:
