Somebody mentioned this and it reminded me...in 1991, I purchased a Miata from a nurse who had just moved out from Florida. The car still had Florida plates, and even though it passed smog with flying colors, I had to pay that $300.00 fee.

Years later, after I had sold the Miata, (to another nurse, ironically,) they repealed that fee. I applied online and was reimbursed after proving I had paid it up front.
