Minor snake oil. Oil is more of an insulator than conductor of heat. As it cools on the surface of a can or inside an oil cooler, the slightly thicker viscosity will cause it to flow slower than the oil inside the passage thus creating an insulating barrier. This is why fin and tube style oil coolers have internal spirals to help stir things up. Flat plate style coolers with multiple parallel paths work best. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM] On Behalf Of Phil S. Hey does anyone know if these oil filter coolers really make a difference? product link: http://www.jcwhitney.com/product.jhtml?CATID=5217&BQ=jcw2 JC Whitney: "Convert your oil filter into an oil cooler and save hundreds of dollars on engine repairs and replacement! Collars work like a heat sink to lower oil temperature to safe water temperature level" Thanks Phil 84' Westy __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
