Check the crankcase oil for gasoline.    When my ECU failed (1.9) the
injectors opened and after continually trying to start. eventually filled the engine
up with gas.
It then ran horribly rich as the gas was going through the breather to the
combustion chambers.    The plugs were always wet.

Change the oil and use a known good ECU.
