While pulling away from a light at about 4000 rpm, my alternator light and O2 light came on. First I thought I threw the belt, but that wasn't it. Belt is in place, alternator is turning, no output. I pulled the alternator, and removed the regulator to check the brushes, and they were in firm contact with the slip rings. Put it all back in and restarted the engine in the vain hope that dis/reassembly fixed things. No go. Checked with NAPA, and a rebuilt from them is 224 to 250. Ouch! Checked at my FLAPS, and they have one for 88 with a lifetime warranty. The difference is that the original has a B+ only, while the replacement has B+ and D+. I'm guessing the D+ is the feed to the voltage regulator, and that it can be jumpered to the B+ for local voltage sense, or I can run a wire to the battery for remote voltage sense. Am I correct in what I think D+ is for? If so, I'll pick this one up tomorrow.
