Contact the Brazilian Embassy and ask to speak to whoever deals with Tariffs and Trade. They should have instructions on how to import a vehicle. Emphasize that you're talking about an antique vehicle, not something that may have to comply with current Department of Transportation (DOT) rules. That said, her family is still in Brazil. Her dad called tonight because he knows my love for vw's. He found a very clean, mint condition 1962 1200cc Splitty green on white. All original interior and paint. Grant it, it is a Brazilian VW not a German made. Anywho, he is going to buy it if I can import. the offer is $1500 US dollars or $4500 reais (Brazil Dollar). well, here is my concern. Does anyone know if this can be imported to the US? If so, will I pay so much in taxes and fees that it will not be worth it? I want this bad, I figure if I get it here I will totally change out most of the Brazilian parts and switch to german made parts. Is this a good idea or what? At very least, this will be a vehicle for me to drive in Brazil when I go twice a year (it really sucks driving in brazil!)
