Roger,

The radio in my 84, which was not stock, came from the dealership wired
to be always on.  Two replacement radios through the years were wired
that way because that is just how I thought it should be.

I recently put a new radio in the 85 Westy I just bought and wired it to
be always "hot."

No problems that I have ever encountered from this in either van.
