When my ECU went bad a few years ago, the symptom was an odd one: if I took my foot off the gas to decelerate, the engine would shut off. Until I fixed it, I got very good at maintaining gas pedal, or I would flick the key off&on to quickly reset it. An ECU from a junkyard solved that problem.
