The bottom bolts are loose.  What a pain to tighten.
A long handled box end wrench would be great.
The alternator doesn't sound bad but it sure feels like the
bearings are bad.  It doesn't feel like it's rotating smoothly.
I have another one that may be good so I'm just going to swap it and
see.

Your alternator should be good and solid. Be sure the two bolts that
hold
the bracket to the engine are both present and tight. I had the same
problem
- one bolt had broken and the other was loose.
