Sunday 10/12 I took my best friend for his first ride in the Westy, and just as he was commenting on how he rarely sees them but we pass a white one with Colorado plates docked at East End Imports repair shop. (hope it isn't there for anything serious.) Quick spin along the river road and tooling down Grand Ave I spy two Westies in quick succession - a nice brown & tan number turning the corner and a modded out dark grey syncro parked in front of a coffee shop. By now he's speechless, and I'm smiling like mad. We pull into the station a few blocks later for fuel and wouldn't you know it, a guy with a great grin in a grey/blue vanagon is popping into a parking spot. All this in the first 40 minutes of driving him around! I wish I averaged a Vanagon sighting every ten minutes every day, but this made my Sunday and my car-spotting friend was floored. If anyone from the Twin Towns saw a smiling fool in a dark grey Westy waving at you like her heart was going burst with sheer joy, well, that was me. That said, now I'm curious. Any estimates to how many remain on the road? -Julia '89 Westy Minneapolis MN
