Have you looked closely to make sure there isn't a crack in the expansion
tank extending to the threads. Or are the threads themselves worn down or
messed up. And the seal, is it in place?

I have a 88 vanagon with a leaking coolant level sensor. I have a new sensor
and expansion tank put back and it is still leaking . And it even at one
time it pop out of the tank. OK what is the secret on how to fix this.
