Sorry I missed this discussion. I were on Christmas break from the list. Be very very careful. The towing vehicle should outweigh the towed vehicle by a fair amount, and I don't think your 4-Runner does. I towed an 81 Westy from Columbia Ca to San Jose with a 2WD Toyota PU. Never again. I took my time and still almost turned that rig around a couple of times. On the other hand, I used my SO's Dodge 1500 PU with the hugh V8 in it to tow it from my house to hers when I moved in. Never felt it. And the parking brake was on in the Westy. Anyhow, good luck and lie when they ask you what you are towing. tim in san jose ----- Original Message ----- From: "Warren.K.Lail-1" <wlail@OU.EDU> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 8:39 AM Subject: Bringing 88 Westy to Home Port! > Thanks to all who offered advice for towing my 88 Westy from middle Tennessee to Oklahoma City with a Toyota 4-runner (800 miles). I'm going to rent a tow-dolly from U-haul, pull my manual tranny bus forward, but disconnect the CV axles anyway (just to be safe). I'll be leaving on Friday morning and returning Saturday evening. If you're out and about on I-40 during that time and see me coming down the highway, flash your lights in support! I sure do need to get my ship back to her home port. > > Thanks again for the feedback. > > Warren > 88 Westy >
