I can't think of any reason why removing the plug would make the engine run better; this is just a protective cover, it doesn't seal or anything. It's held on with a couple obvious bolts to the right side of the head and injector pump bracket, a less obvious bolt to the left side of the head, and a bolt down in front of the coolant overflow tank that's not obvious at all. ;) Be careful with that last one, it's easy to cross thread. Been there, done that, and I curse at it every time I have to put the cover back on. :P > P.S. I can't locate any wires in the loom or anywhere for the two water > temp. senors on the back of the motor! The two sensors on the front of the motor are oil pressure (on the head) and water temperature (on the heater hose nipple.) There's also a temperature sender for the glow plug system in the radiator hose nipple that comes off the right side of the head. (When I say 'front of the motor', by the way, I mean the end that points towards the front of the van, not the end that's pointing towards you when you're standing there. As Muir used to say, 'Front is Front'.) David Brodbeck, N8SRE '82 Volkswagen Diesel Westfalia '86 Volvo 240DL wagon
