i found a place that sells the adapter that mounts to your AFM to eliminate
your factory airbox and install a cold air intake system or K&N cone filter..
 you will have to make a bracket to support your AFM tho but that shouldnt be
too hard.   its the same adapter used for the Neuspeed/Eurosport P-flo/Cool
flo  intake systems for  the '88-93 digifant golf/jetta/cabby..but it will bolt
to the vanagon's AFM as well..  this adapter piece is cast aluminum and bolts
right to your AFM, and has a cylindrical flange about 1.5" high to allow a K&
N or intake hose (routed up to rear scoops for a cold air intake) to be put on
it.
