You want a set up from Roadmaster. They make brackets http://www.roadmasterinc.com/pdfinst/1208-1.pdf specifically for the Vanagon and their tow bars are fantastic. I have the http://www.roadmasterinc.com/falcon2.html which remains on the motor home. My set up has worked for 2 trips from NY to Florida and from NY to Maine a long with many other adventures. Note, that in order to be legal now in most states, you need something to activate the towed vehicle brakes for both normal stopping and in case of a "break away". If you are willing to spend more, you can get the http://www.roadmasterinc.com/sterling.html. This bar includes a shock absorber system. This is the one you want. Dennis
