Hmm...I'm not too sure if you're lock mechanism is the same as mine.  For
one thing, my outside handle is pushed down to open the door, and if the
door is locked it cannot be pushed down.  It looks like you may have a
later-model door handle, at very least -- notice how short it is, and
compare to the scrape marks from the original handle.

I'm not sure what your problem is, sorry.  Maybe if you remove the inside
door panel you can get a better idea of what's going on?
