I installed an iPod in my van. I have an Alpine unit 7892, which you can purchase an AI-NET/RCA Interface Cable for. I went to Radio Shack and constructed an adapter to go from the RCA Interface Cable to a 1/8'' stereo jack plug. I drilled a small hole in the dash for the 1/8'' stero jack input, see the link below for some ideas. http://www.radioshack.com/category.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F011%5F003%5F001%5F009&Page=1 I have an iPod holder mounted to the front/left of the gear shifter. I just use a cable to go 1/8'' stereo out of the iPod to the installed jack on the dash. My homegrown cable goes from the dash into the stereo. To listen to the iPod, I just press play and switch the stereo to Aux. I can plug in my laptop, guitar, etc. and have the sound played over the van's stereo. It's a clean install that works really well. Hope this helps, Josh ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Federici" <joefederici@EARTHLINK.NET> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2004 12:59 PM Subject: Re: audio source ?'s > That's cool but the question remains if you have an older unit what's > the best way to get it ipod friendly > > JFF > > >Alpine now makes a unit with iPod input and control. > > > >some info here: > > > >http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/industry_news/article_650.shtml > > > > > > > >Alistair > > > >-- > >'82 Westy -> diesel converted to gas in '94 > >albell@uvic.ca > >http://members.shaw.ca/albell > > > > > > > >on 12/2/04 9:58 am, robyn rudisill wrote: > > > >> hey, > >> > >> I'm currently running a sony cd deck in our vanagon. it's pretty old and has > >> a hit-n-miss attitude towards "pc produced" audio (only itunes will work) > >> and no mp3 capabilities. > >> > >> could I just put in an amp and route an audio in plug up to the dash. then > > > plug in any source I wanted, say my fisher price record player or an ipod? > > > > > > thanks. > > > robyn > > >
