Front Axle Nut $2.50 251407671 at Bus Depot. I'd be surprised if they were NLA at the dealer. Maybe try a different dealer? That said, I certainly *have* reused them, without having my front wheels fall off. You'll usually find that they "snug up" to a different spot than before so you're working on a fresh spot on the nut. I'll usually use a punch and put 2-3 dimples in the nut along the line of the grove in the axle. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Young '81 Vanagon Lafayette, CA 94549 '82 Westfalia --------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kurt Camealy" <camealy@CTSR.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Monday, February 23, 2004 10:12 AM Subject: Front Bearings Due to my front end complete overhaul I have the rotors off the spindles to get the lower ball joints out. The bearings feel good and I was going to repack them and reinstall. My question is with the peening nut. It says to not reuse it and I can see why for safety reasons. Having a front wheel fall off would kinda ruin my day. I called the dealer and they are not able to get them anymore. Is there any similar nut available at any of the major parts stores or am I going to have to buy a bearing kit mail order? Does anyone know the part number? PS: How do you get your hands on the parts CD for the Vanagons? Thanks, 87 Wolfsburg GL
