Thanks for the reply, Dennis. The heads were brand new AMC, and i replaced the adjusting screws (but apparently with crap ones?). Pretty much every adjuster was pitted to varying degrees, but one screw had been eaten away by at least a 1/4 inch. The heads were purchased from the respected Bob Donalds, so i feel confident that those have been built correctly (corroborated by the no-lack-of-power-when-cold thing). Is there a convenient way to check for that after the engine is put together, anyway?
