I have a 84 Wetsfalia with the ORIGINAL undercoating.
It's in great shape ( RUST FREE ) and I was thinking about covering over it
with an
off the shelf undercoat product.

My local VW mechanic from Da old country was strongly against using any type
of undercoat.

He said that the undercoating ( in some cases ) accelerate the rust.

He suggested cleanimg the rust spots off with a wire brush and using
TREMCLAD paint.

Any suggestions???

Scott, if your van is rust free then why do you want to undercoat it ? If
it is truly rust free and you want to keep it that way I strongly suggest you
have it Krown Oil sprayed once a year. I see from your address your in
Canada and there certainly should be a Krown dealer near you. From my experience
driving my '87 Westy as a full time driver in the Ottawa area for over 10
years I can vouch that the Krown works.
If you have surface rust that you need to clean up and cover I would suggest
forgetting about The Tremclad, it wont hold up. Use POR-15 following their
directions for surface preparation as the base then continue on with normal
automotive primer and paints to finish.
Hope to see you at this years _BusFusion_
