That was my thinking when I bought my replacement muffler from VW a few years ago for my 85 Westfalia. Seems that now VW no longer supplies mufflers for 85's. So they replaced it with a Dansk unit. Goodbye lifetime warranty. Never even got a VW replacement out of it.
