As the debate over the ethics of selling vanagon parts on ebay rages on , the eBay sellers are no worse than junkyards in my opinion. . Junkyards take/buy all kinds of vehicles that could be saved. I saw a clean '90 Vanagon Midnight blue with power everything selling for 3,500 at a junkyard. Two weeks later they put it in the yard and put another car on top of it. This is sad to see but it's the way of the junkyard, where it all began. SO eBay is just another avenue to market goods or auto parts- the parting out people used to , and still do, take out parting -out ads in local papers.SO ending eBay would'nt stop them. Nothing can be done to save these cars except that you bid on them at auctions, or buy them anywhere, to save them one at a time. Much of the cars that end up in junkyards are sold at salvage auctions. I recently saved a 1986 Westfalia from such a fate(round of applause). Now it has a second chance to be of service to the fortunate buyer. If any of us were millionaires we could start a restoration factory and crank out like -new vintage Vanagons on an assembly line. We could save all the Vanagons this way, buying them up before the junkyards get them. Ah, but I'm sure any huge operation would be challenged by the EPA and DOT,etc. OK-so this is just another coolant pipe dream. Start buying these Vanagons and we can find a central location to store them, say, Kansas. It could be like the annual cattle drive to Dodge . One giant Vanagon feed lot.
