Doesn't the Berg use the existing spring retainer?  Can't this be reused
similarly - slid up 3/4"?

From what I understand from reading the Berg instructions that were posted,
the kit includes a round sleeve that slides over the shifter shaft (below
the pivot).  What is its purpose?
