I didn't notice that you have an auto trans. Another listee pointed out to me that there are componentys made of steel in there. After you scrape off the flaky stuff, you may want to treat that rust with some sealer so that moisture cannot get to it and continue to rust under the paint finish. Some of these products are sold under "rust converter" labels.
