I picked up one of those about two years ago, neat toy.  Another use is
for checking tire pressure.  On long trips, as soon as I pull over at a
rest stop, I check the temp on the tires.  I'm looking for even temp,
especially front to rear.  If I have readings close to the same temp on
front and rear I figure that I have the pressure  about right for the
load (assuming I started out with the pressure right when cold)
