Time for a good "you fixed it with what?" solution

  Looks like the knob for the front heater's fan's speed control  has either broken or pulled out of it's socket--stuck in high position. I jammed it back in and turned it off (kinda). 
  Has anyone had this experience and if so how did you deal with it .
