Am attempting to mount an NGP (No Ground Plane) 3 ' Firestik CB Antenna. Due to the unavialibility of a large metal suface on the poptop, this is the best way to go for reception and what we have to deal with as to the design of our van. The mount is a side mount type that requires drilling two holes, then you attach the mount inserting the two mounting bolts thru the drilled area, then you have a metal backing plate for stability. My thoughts are to mount it in the right side of the fiberglass lugage rack over the passengers side window, drilling the two verticle holes in the middle of the side of the rack. Reason I need the middle is that I have a bracket that mounts over the two ends to hold a portable AC unit whilst in camp. My question is, is the fiberglass rack strong enough to support the 3' antenna in moderate road winds that you encounter when driving at speed ? Will it crack, of fatigue ?
