Hi Mark, My answer to this problem was to screw a 4" square metal plate into the centre of the roofrack, and attach a short magnetic antenna to it. The metal plate is connected to the body of the bus with a small wire that terminates at the bracket holding down the pop-top canvas. This isn't the best solution in terms of reception, but it does offer the least amount of visible deformation to the camper. The best westy-mounted CB Radio I have encountered thus far belongs to Jamie Rivers, who has a 108" whip antenna mounted to his trailer hitch. His radio always reads 5-by-5 when he's using this antenna. http://www.pottsfamily.ca/The_Bug_Pack/FallTour2002/pictures/ agf00022.html Happy trails, Greg Potts Toronto, Ontario, Canada 1973/74/79 Westfakia Conversion **Bob the Tomato** LY3H 1977 Sunroof Automatic L63H/L90D http://www.pottsfamily.ca/westfakia http://www.geocities.com/busesofthecorn On 25-Mar-04, at 8:48 AM, Mark Carrig wrote: > Am attempting to mount an NGP (No Ground Plane) 3 ' Firestik CB > Antenna. > Due to the unavialibility of a large metal suface on the poptop, this > is > the best way to go for reception and what we have to deal with as to > the > design of our van.
