If this Westy has 40,000 miles on a GEX engine then you can consider that you got a good engine. I'd trust this 40K engine ten times more than a 2000 mile new GEX install. About the only way to check out the engine is to run it for about an hour on the highway to get it to full temperatures (Air Cooled engines tend to build and hold heat.) You'd need an oil pressure gauge and an oil temperature gauge to get the true picture on the engine. Engine oil temp should be less than 240 (f) and the oil pressure should be a minimum of 30 PSI at 220 degrees oil temp running 70 mph. The minimum oil pressure for 2000cc Air Cooled at highway speeds is 18 PSI at 3000 rpms and full temps. This is the point where you should rebuild the engine before you throw a rod or seize a piston from heat caused by low oil pressure. I found the company website. I am checking it. It's a Californian compagny. Do you know it? What is their reputation? The westy has 40,000 km on this engine now. The current seller had it installer very soon after buying it. It cost him 3400 USD. (it has a manual trans, it matters). JP
